Full on Shabby Chic!

Hi Everyone!

After a visit to my parents home, with some time spent sorting attic treasures, I was inspired to use some of the ancestral ephemera I have collected in a project.

The current challenge at Frilly and Funkie is stencil mania, I grabbed a couple of stencils and started creating a background.  Here is a shot of the leftover background, so you can how I started.  For the very first layer, I pounced Distress Embossing Ink through a wood grain stencil and applied Pan Pastels in blue and green.  Next, I applied Distress Inks through a floral stencil, then misted the leftover ink on the stencil with water, flipped it and applied it in a different area of the background, as Linda did in her inspiration piece.  (See it here.)

I went on to add more Distress Inks, an overall layer of Rock Candy Distress Crackle, and finally another stenciled layer of modeling paste and more Distress Ink, until my background looked like this:

(See it peeking out from behind the Distress Stained seam binding bow?  I didn't take a photo before adding all of my focal layers.  Oops!)

You may be wondering what my finished card looks like by now.  Here it is:

I had so much fun adding layer after layer of vintage goodness!  The envelopes are copies of family letters.  The misspelled "sweetheart" lettering is torn from another copied family letter.  I added lots of Distress Inks to the edges of all of these pieces.  In addition to the vintage handwriting, I applied various pieces of book paper, a stamped and inked green bracket border from my scrap pile and a piece of coordinating pink designer paper.

Rather than adding color to these sweet little paper flowers, I inked them with Perfect medium, and brushed them with white perfect pearls.  The leaves were punched from a project that I started ages ago and abandoned.  It involved braying Perfect Medium onto the raised portion of embossed designer paper, and brushing on Perfect Pearls.  It makes a really gorgeous background, and also some pretty little leaves for this project.

Here is one more shot of the finished card:

I have learned from my art journaling that adding layer after layer until I am pleased can be rewarding, and I let that lesson carry over into this card making session.  I'm really happy with the results.  I hope you have enjoyed seeing it as well.

The Documented Life Project, Week 14

Hello All,

Can you believe we are 14 weeks into the year already?  I can't!  What seemed like a long, cold winter was ultimately a short, cold winter.

As usual, I had fun with this week's journal challenge, and finished it early for a change.

The challenge:  Write my name and embellish it.

The result:

Honestly, I didn't embellish all that much, but I had fun working with some new-to-me lettering styles, before deciding that I wanted to use my normal signature.  I keep picturing my girls enjoying this journal years from now, and recording my real- life signature appealed to me.

My first step was to draw a border on my page. After writing my name, I covered it with masking fluid.  When the masking fluid was dry, I added color with Pan Pastels.   Next, I used stencils and Distress Inks to add some interest.  When this was dry, I removed the masking fluid.  I really like the way the white "shadow" highlights my text.

Since I didn't want to embellish my signature any further, my page really needed some more details.  I glued on the sequins and added some dots to my border.

I took advantage of the sunny day to go outside and do some spray painting.  I have a couple of reclaimed junk projects in the works.  I hope you all had a chance to be crafty this weekend, and if not, there are still a few hours left!

More Stamping on Pan Pastels

Hi Everyone,

Hope you're having a fantabulous day!  I have another card that features stamping over pan pastels to show you today:

I simply swept pan pastels over white cardstock using a foam "spatula".  I stamped over it with Olive Archival ink, and layered it on a card base to which I added a stamped sentiment.  I think this is going to be my "go-to" technique when I need a quick card.

That's it for today. Thanks for stopping by!

At least these colors are warm!

Hi Everyone!

Today I have a card that features some warm colors, in a nice contrast to the temperatures outside.  Brrrr!  It has been a cold winter here, but very beautiful.

For this card, I used a "stencil", (the negative space left over from a digital die cut) and placed some Pan Pastel flowers on a patterned paper.

I added some layering and a coordinating organza bow, and my card was finished.  Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy!

And a final view of the front:

Have a terrific day!  Stay warm!

Stamping on Pan Pastels

Hi Everyone,

I tried a new technique for this card:

I applied a  layer of Pan Pastels with a foam applicator on white cardstock, and stamped over it with Archival Ink.  It's as simple as that!

I'm sure I'll be making more of these fun and easy cards!

That's it for today.  Hope you find a few minutes to be creative!
