Love...

... is in the air!  That's the theme over Frilly and Funkie this time around.  I was really in the mood to make a mixed media style card today, so that's what I did!

Since French is said to be the language of love, I started with a page from the vintage French dictionary I picked up at an Antiques mall in Maine recently.

I spread on a thin layer of  heavy gesso with a pallet knife, sponged on Distress inks in several colors, and added  some random polka dots and French text stamping with Archival ink.

I have been wanting the Wendy Vecchi Vintage Lace stamp since I first saw it.  I finally got, and I love it as much as I thought I would!  This is the result of my first stamping, on white paper with Hickory Smoke DI, with various Distress Inks sponged on.  I fussy cut the edges, before realizing that I could make a cut file and have my Silver Bullet cutter do all the work.  That's how I did the pink shadow layer.

My older daughter is home for the weekend, and joined me in the craft room to do some knitting while I "worked".   We brainstormed about how to embellish the card, and came up with these things:

I cut the corrugated heart with my Silver Bullet cutter (What can't this fabulous machine cut?!)  and added some inks and bead gel medium.  I made the fleurs-de-lis  (French again.  See what I'm doing?) using a silicone mold and hot glue.  A bit of Distress Paint and Archival ink highlight the design.  Some twine fibers, a loop of wire and an Idea-ology pin with a chit chat sticker round out the embellishments.

(I'll be saving the pin for later, as I liked the chit chat sticker better like this.)

I could give this card to my wonderful husband, but I think I'll just display it instead.  It's not really his style, and I'll get to spend more time in the craft room making him another!

Thanks for stopping by today!

I wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day!

Elizabeth
