Grungy layer it up...

... love!  Hi, everyone! Hope you have had a lovely weekend!

After making a few clean and simple cards lately, I felt like getting my hands dirty with some mixed media products.  I decided to make one project that would work for two of my favorite challenge blogs.  The current theme at Anything but Cute, chosen by Sarah Emily, is Grungy Love.  Over at Frilly and Funkie, the challenge from Nancy is to Layer it up.  You can bet your boots that I had a ton of fun combining these themes!

This is what I started with:

Actually, I started with the pink cardstock with the vertical layer of gesso, which had been sopped up from an earlier project.  In keeping with the " layer it up" theme, I added more layers, including stenciled modeling paste, washi tape, and lots more gesso and Distress inks as you can see in the finished card:

Layer one is as described above.  Layer 2 is a piece of TH Kraft resist, colored with Antiqued Bronze Distress stain.  I love how it works with the pink and red Distress Paints I used for the 3rd layer, over vintage book paper.  I did lots of misting and dipping here, with Festive Berries, Antique Linen and Barn Door.  I inked the edges liberally with Gathered Twig and Walnut Stain DI.  I wrapped Layers 2 and 3 with a length of hand dyed seam binding that I scrunched over sticky tape.

I had a blast making layer 4!  I added hand made paper roses (cut from copy weight paper with my Silver Bullet Cutter, and inked with DI)to a crackled and distressed chipboard base, with more dyed seam binding, a metal token and some bits of embroidery floss.  I used Wendy Vecchi Crackle medium with a wash of watered down Distress paints on the chipboard, to replicate the "attic grunge" I am often trying to remove from the bits and pieces I rescue from my parents attic.

Here is one more photo of my completed card, just because the sun was cooperating more than usual as I was taking pictures.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I wish you all a wonderful week ahead!
