The one with the art journal pages...

Hi Everyone,

Today is the first day of August, and I am starting the month by committing to working in my art journals for at least five minutes every day for the entire month.  If this is the first time you've heard me mention an art journal, that is because it feels odd to me to admit I have an "art" journal.  Sounds a bit like I am calling myself an artist, which I never do.  I have always drawn a line between art and craft, with myself solidly on the craft side.  That being said, I did start a journal earlier this year as a place to explore new techniques and materials.  I find that it is a bit neater than using tags, as the pages are tidily in one place, rather than laying around in a box here or a shelf there.

So, since I have copped to having the journals, and am going to focus on working on them this month, I though I would be brave and share my pages with you.  Some of them are incomplete, and some of them are just plain ugly, but I actually like a few of them.  Hope you do too!

This is todays 5 minutes worth of art journaling.  I am experimenting with something I found on Pinterest.  Stay tuned:  It's not even close to being finished yet.

my first play with my new Pan Pastels.

Using up some left overs from another project

hmmm  this one looks better in the photo than in real life!

Proof that not all experiments are good!  (unless you count learning what not to do next time!)

A water soluable crayon background, with some colors bleeding through  from the previous page

These three are brayered acrylics with stencils

Gesso with a mask and misted Distress Inks.  Need to finish this one!

I made this transparent tag from a piece of packaging.

I actually have two art journals.  One is a wonderful old gardening book that I am altering.  The other is a simple sketch book that I use to try out new techniques before I commit to them in my "good" journal.

If you join me in art journaling every day this month, I would love to hear about it.  For inspiration, you should check out Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's Blog and scroll down to the Art Journal Every Day entries.   Her pages are amazing, and there are lots of linkies to other artists' pages as well.  Be careful, if you are anything like me, you will get lost in the colorful wormhole, and it will take a while to get free!  LOL

If you are still with me, thanks for looking!  Later in the week, I will be posting the first of my "attic treasure" projects.  I am pretty excited to share it!

Until then,

Elizabeth
